बि.सं. २००२ साल पुष १४ गते जन्मिएका राजा वीरेन्द्र २०५८ जेठ १९ को दरवार हत्याकाण्डमा मारिए । उनी शाहवंशका लोकप्रिय राजा थिए । भूराजनीतिक अवस्थालाई दृष्टिगत गरी नेपालले छिमेकी मुलुकहरुसंग कस्तो सम्वन्ध राख्नु पर्छ भन्ने बिषयामा उनी प्रष्ट थिए ।
२०६३ पुषको कुरा हो । हरेक दिन विहान पूर्व परराष्ट्रमन्त्री चक्रप्रसाद बास्तोलाको निवास खुमलटार पुग्ने, एक डेढ घण्टा कुरा गरेर फर्किने मेरो रुटिन नै थियो । एक दिनको कुरा हो, भित्तामा राखिएको एउटा तस्वीर देखाउदै चक्रले भनेका थिए ‘हेर यो तस्वीर राजा रानीसंग चीन भ्रमणमा जाँदाको हो । फर्किदा राजा खुसी थिए । जहाज चढे पछि राजाले ड्रिङक अपर गरे । त्यही तस्वीर खिचियो । राजा रानीले हस्ताक्षर गरेर दिए । यो नै राजासंगको मेरो अन्तिम विदेश यात्रा हो । त्यसको तीन महिनापछि दरवार हत्याकाण्डमा राजाको वंश समाप्त भैहाल्यो ।’
चक्रले त्यो भ्रमणको स्मरण गर्दै सुनाए -बुझ्यौ, त्यो दिन राजाले मसंग भनेका थिए–‘मिनिष्टर, नेपालको भूराजनीति वडो जटिल छ । हामीले अत्यन्त चनाखो भएर देशको सार्वभौमिकता जोगाउनु पर्छ । मेरो विचारमा प्रधानमन्त्री ‘प्रो’ इण्डिया र म ‘प्रो’ चाईनिज देखिनु नै यो देशको हितमा छ ।’
चक्र भन्दै थिए–नेपाली राजसंस्थाको चीनसंग मैत्रीपूर्ण सम्वन्ध थियो । जीवनकालमा राजा बीरेन्द्रले दश पटक चीनको औपचारिक भ्रमण गरि सकेका थिए । उनको अन्तिम भ्रमण चाही हाइनान टापुमा आयोजित ‘बोआओ फोरम फर एसिया’को विशेष अतिथीका रुपमा भएको हो, २०५७ फागुन १५ देखि २१ सम्म । म सवारी मन्त्री थिए ।
‘हेड अफ दि स्टेट’ का रुपमा राजालाई निम्ता थिएन । ‘बोआओ सम्मेलन सकिए पछि चिनिया सरकारले उपलव्ध गराएको चार्टड प्लेनमा राजा बेइजिङका लागि उडे ।
यस्ता भ्रमणमा परराष्ट्र मन्त्रालयका शिष्टाचार महापालले परम्परा अनुसार सबै खर्चको थैली वोक्ने चलन हुन्छ । राजाका एडीसी सुन्दरप्रताप रानाले ‘दरवारको दुःखान्त पुस्तकमा लेखेका छन्–वेइजिङ उडे पछि शिष्टाचार महापाल भगिरथ बस्नेतले एक्कासी टाउको ठोके ‘लौ न नि, मैले त पैसा होटलमै छोडेछु (राना, २०७६ ः २४१)।’ बस्नेत आत्तिको देखेर नेपाली प्रतिनिधिमण्डलका ४३ सदस्य चकित भए ।
चिनियाँहरुले जहाजवाटै होटलमा सम्पर्क गरे । बस्नेतले छोडेको रकम वेइजिङमै पठाई दिएकाले समस्या ट-यो । त्यो भ्रमणमा चीनले राजालाई ठूलो महत्व दिएको थियो । चक्रले भनेका छन् ‘भीभीआइपी स्ट्याटसमा राजाको उपस्थिति गराइएको थियो । चाइनिजहरु राजा वीरेन्द्रलाई असाध्यै मान्थे, सम्मान गर्थे । उनीहरुको बोली र व्यवहारबाट प्रष्टैसंग यो कुरा बुझ्न सकिन्थ्यो । त्यो भ्रमण पछि राजा चीनसग अझ बढी नजिकिए ।’
राजासंग राष्ट्रपति जियाङ जेमिन र प्रधानमन्त्री झु रोङ्जीसंग महत्वपूर्ण भेटवार्ता गरेकाले पनि नेपाली राजालाई उनीहरुले कुन स्थानमा राखेका थिए भन्ने वुझ्न सकिन्थ्यो ।
त्यही भ्रमणका अवसरमा राजाले चीनको समर्थनमा कुनै राजनीतिक कदम चाल्न खोजेका थिए_ तत्कालीन सैनिक सचिव विवेककुमार शाहले आफ्नो पुस्तक ‘मैले देखेको दरवार’ मा राजा राजनीतिक कु को तयारीमा रहेको उल्लेख गरेका छन् । ‘अप्रेशन बाज’ नामक त्यो योजनाको फाइल आफूलाई हेर्न राजाले दिएको पनि उनले उल्लेख गरेका छन् । राजाले राजनीतिक कदम चाल्न तयारी गरिरहदा २०५८ जेठ १९ मा दरवार हत्याकाण्ड भएको शाहले उल्लेख गरेका छन् ।
