मानन्धरले लेखकलाई सुनाएका थिए – बेडिङमा हतियार राखेर सीमा पार गराई दिने जिम्मेवारी थियो मेरो । पश्चिमका मोर्चामा हामीले पठाएका हतियारबाट मुक्ति सेनाले लडेको हो ।

पहिलो पुस्ताका कम्युनिस्ट नेता विष्णुबहादुर मानन्धरलाई तीनपटक भेटेँ । पहिलोपटक विमर्श साप्ताहिकका निम्ति अन्तर्वार्ता लिन र दुईपटक अनुसन्धानका लागि सूचना लिन । पछिल्लो भेटमा मानन्धरका छोरा सुनिल (तत्कालीन नेकपा नेता) ले सहयोग गरे । उमेरले नौ दशक नाघ्दा कान कम सुने पनि मानन्धरको स्मरण शक्ति गज्जब लाग्यो । मेरा प्रश्नको जबाफ दिन छोरा सुनीलले जोडले कानमा कराएर सुनाउनु परेको थियो । 

राणाकालमै व्यापारको सिलसिलामा विष्णुबहादुर मानन्धरका पुर्खा काठमाडौंबाट रौतहटको गौर पुगेका रहेछन् । 

पिताजी ठेक्कापट्टा गर्थे । जग्गा जमिन प्रशस्त थियो नै । रौतहटमा तिनताका आधुनिक स्कुल थिएनन् । घरमै गुरुजी राखेर छोराछोरी पढाउने व्यवस्था मिलाएका थिए उनका पिताले । घरको पढाइ सकेर मानन्धर भारतको सितामढी गए तीन कक्षामा भर्ना हुन । हाइस्कूल पूरा गरेपछि उच्च शिक्षाका लागि बनारसतिर लागे । बनारस धार्मिक र शैक्षिक केन्द्र त थियो नै राणा विरोधीहरुको ‘हेडक्वाटर‘जस्तै थियो । प्रजातन्त्रको पक्षधरहरुमा विद्यार्थी र राणा सरकारले देश निकाला गरेकाहरु नै बढी थिए ।
विद्यार्थीहरुले नेपाली छात्र संघ नामक संस्था खोलेका थिए । विसं २००७ सालको जनक्रान्तिको तयारी भइरहँदा दिनहुँ अनेकौं कार्यक्रम हुन्थे । विश्वबन्धु थापा र भरतमणि शर्माजस्ता सहकर्मीको संगतले मानन्धर पनि संघका गतिविधिमा सक्रिय हुन थाले ।

 

 

छात्रहरुलाई प्रशिक्षण दिन बीपी र गणेशमानलगायत नेता आउँथे । कुनै पार्टीको सदस्यता नलिए पनि नेपालमा राणा शासन हटाएर प्रजातन्त्र ल्याउनुपर्छ भन्ने मान्यता राख्ने मानन्धर त्यस्ता कार्यक्रममा भाग लिइरहन्थे । 

एनसीसी तालिम लिएका उनी त्यतिञ्जेल एलएमजी, थ्री नट थ्री राइफल चलाउन सक्ने भइसकेका थिए । मानन्धरले लेखकलाई सुनाएका थिए – म कांग्रेसको सदस्य भइसकेको थिइन । तर, राणा शासन हटाउन आन्दोलन गर्नुपर्छ भन्ने पक्षमा थिए । कांग्रेस निकट विद्यार्थी संगठनसँग नजिक भएको र हतियार चलाउन सिकेको कारणले पनि २००७ सालको क्रान्तिमा भाग लिने अवसर पाए । 

 

कांग्रेसको वैरगनीया सम्मेलनले सशस्त्र क्रान्तिको निर्णय लिँदै सभापति मातृकाप्रसाद कोइरालालाई सर्वोच्च कमान्डर बनाएको थियो । मानन्धरले क्रान्तिमा जाने इच्छा राखे तर मोर्चामा लड्नै जाने भए कांग्रेसको सदस्यता लिनुपर्छ भनियो । राणासँग लड्ने अर्को वैकल्पिक शक्ति नभएकाले सदस्यता लिएर मुक्तिसेनामा भर्ना भए । लखनउमा एक महिनासम्म हतियार चलाउने र नेपालमा सिमा क्षेत्रका हतियार पठाउने काममा खटिए उनी । 

यस प्रसंगमा मानन्धरले लेखकलाई सुनाएका थिए – बेडिङमा हतियार राखेर सीमा पार गराई दिने जिम्मेवारी थियो मेरो । पश्चिमका मोर्चामा हामीले पठाएका हतियारबाट मुक्ति सेनाले लडेको हो । 

 

लखनउबाटै उनी क्रान्तिको मोर्चाका लागि रवाना भएर धनगढी पुगे । नेपालको सीमा प्रवेश गरेपछि काँधमा बन्दुक थपियो । कमान्डका प्रमुख महेन्द्रविक्रम शाह र उनीपछिका कमान्डर सूर्यप्रसाद उपाध्याय थिए ।  

मानन्धरले लेखकलाई सुनाएका थिए – हामी सातआठ जनाको समूहले आक्रमण गर्ने धम्की दिएपछि सारा कर्मचारीले हात उठाए  । सहजै धनगढी कब्जा भइहाल्यो । बडाहाकिम मकरदेव नारायण सिंह थारुले आत्मसमर्पण गर्न मानेनन् । उनको घरमा आगो लगाइयो । अन्तिम समयमा आएर उनले पनि आत्मसमर्पण गरे । क्रान्तिकारीले उनलाई गोली हानेर मारे । आक्रोशित भिडले लास जंगलमा फालिदियो । थारुले कर्मचारीमाथि ठूलो दमन गरेका थिए । त्यही रिसमा उनकै मातहतका एक कर्मचारीले बडाहाकिम थारुको रगत पनि खाए भन्ने सुनेको थिएँ । 

तिनताका राजापुर पश्चिम नेपालकै व्यापारिक केन्द्र थियो । मानन्धर सम्मिलित मुक्ति सेनाले बल प्रयोगविनै राजापुर बजार कब्जा ग¥यो । राणाको फौजबाट पचास नाल थ्री नट थ्री राइफल क्रान्तिकारीले हात पारे । मानन्धरले लेखकसँग भनेका थिए – राणा सरकारले नेपालगन्जपछि राजापुरलाई प्राथमिकतामा राखेको थियो । सधैँ हल्ला चल्थ्यो । राणाको फौज आउँदैछ आउँदैछ भन्ने तर कहिल्यै आएन । भन्सार अड्डा पक्की घरमा थियो । हामीले भित्रभित्रै हाकिमलाई मिलायौँ । राति हामीले आक्रमण गर्ने योजना थियो । तर, हमला गर्नुअघि नै हामी पुग्नासाथ राणाका मानिसले आत्मसमर्पण गरिदिए । 

राजापुर पुग्न कर्णाली नदी र त्यसका थुप्रै सहायक नदी पार गर्नुपर्ने । राणाको फौज आउन नसकोस् भनेर विद्रोहीले सबै डुंगा कब्जामा लिएका थिए ।

मानन्धरले भनेका थिए – बिहान दसाैँ हजार थारुहरु जम्मा भए । प्रायः सबैका घरमा सिकार खेल्ने भरुवा बन्दुक हुन्थ्यो । कसैले पड्काई दिएछ । राणाहरुले ठाने अब लड्नै पर्नेभयो । उनीहरु पन्ध्र दिनका लागि रासन पानी तयार गरेर ट्रेन्चमा तम्तयारी अवस्थामा थिए । तर, हामी लड्न सक्ने अवस्थामै थिएनौ । हामीसँग काम लाग्ने हतियार पाँच सात थानमात्र थिए । उनीहरुसँग पचासौं थान त राइफलै थिए । 

राणा फौजले विद्रोहीको शक्ति आकलन गर्न सकेन । त्यसको फाइदा उठाउदै महेन्द्रविक्रम शाहले माइकिङ गरे ।

राजापुुर कब्जा भएपछि मानन्धरसहित मुक्ति सेनाका लडाकुहरु गुलरियामा बसेका थिए । उता दिल्लीमा राजा, राणा र कांग्रेसबीच त्रिपक्षीय संझौता भएर युद्धविराम भयो । यसबीच मुक्तिसेनाले नेपालगन्ज कब्जा गरिदियो । त्यो पनि बडाहाकिम धु्रवशमशेर लखनउ गएका बेला । यता नेपालगन्जमा राणा फौजका सबै हातहतियार खोसिए । विवाद मिलाउन कांग्रेस सभापति मातृकाप्रसाद कोइरालाले नै हस्तक्षेप गर्नु पर्‍यो । त्यति बेलासम्म मानन्धरको टोली नेपालगञ्जमै थियो । यता काठमाडौंमा अन्तिम राणा प्रधानमन्त्री मोहनशमशेरको नेतृत्वमा राणा कांग्रेस संयुक्त सरकार बन्यो । 

मानन्धरले स्मरण गरे – यहाँ बस्नु बेकार छ भनेर फर्कियाैँ । मुक्ति सेनाले रेडियो चलाएको थियो । दैनिक हामी खबर प्रसारण गर्न थाल्याैँ  । मैले अंग्रेजीमा अरु नेपालीमा समाचार पढ्थे । रेडियोबाट हामीले फुकिदियौँ – मोहीले जग्गाधनीलाई अबदेखि बाली बुझाउनु पर्दैन । 

त्यसको केही समयपछि मानन्धर पटना जाने तयारीमा थिए । त्यहीँ पढ्दै गरेका दाजुलाई भेट्न । त्यो कुरा थाहा पाएपछि कांग्रेस नेता सूर्यप्रसाद उपाध्यायले एउटा चिठी लेखे । त्यो पत्र थमाउँदै मानन्धरलाई भने – तिमी आफैँले यो चिठी बीपीको हातमा दिनु । 
अन्तरिम सरकारका गृहमन्त्री बीपी गभर्नर सम्मेलनका लागि वीरगञ्जमा थिए । पटना पुग्नुअघि मानन्धर रक्सौलमा ओर्लिए बीपीलाई भेटर सूर्यप्रसादको पत्र दिन ।
