पत्रिकाको एउटा अङ्कमा प्रकाशित एक आलेखमा सन्दर्भवश राजा वीरेन्द्रको श्रीपेच सहितको भव्य औपचारिक फोटो छापियो। फोटोको क्याप्शन थियो, वसन्तपुरमा एक मगन्ते। त्यही अङ्कको अर्को आलेखमा प्रसङ्गवश काठमाडौंको वसन्तपुरमा कुनै एक मगन्तेले भीख मागिरहेको दृश्य पनि छापिएको थियो। त्यसको क्याप्सन थियो( श्री ५ महाराजाधिराज वीरेन्द्र।

सरकारी होस् अथवा गैरसरकारी पत्रिका, पञ्चायती व्यवस्था होस् अथवा अन्य कुनै व्यवस्था, यो एक गम्भीर सम्पादकीय भूल, अझ भनौं, अपराध थियो। द राइजिङ नेपालको सहप्रकाशन थियो सन्डे डिस्प्याच र त्यसको सम्पादक थिए, लोकदीप थापा। यद्यपि, अङ्ग्रेजी भाषा भएकाले सन्डे डिस्प्याचका पाठकहरूको सङ्ख्या सीमित थियो।
सञ्चार मन्त्री रुद्रप्रसाद गिरीसँग त्यस वेला मेरो राम्रो सम्बन्ध थियो। तर, यस घटनाले गर्दा मन्त्री स्वयं आफ्नो आसन हल्लिएको अनुभव गरिरहेका थिए। उनी यसमा आफूले केही गर्न नसक्ने भनेर टकटकिए।
भूल थाहा हुने बित्तिकै बजारमा पठाइएका त्यसका प्रतिहरू हतार हतार फिर्ता गरिएका थिए। तथापि, सम्पादक थापाको टाउकोमा सङ्कट मडारिरहेकै थियो। उनी कुनै पनि वेला प्रशासनको कब्जामा पर्न सक्थे। शुभेच्छुकहरूको सल्लाहमा उनी भूमिगत भए। बजारमा उनी पक्राउ परेको हल्ला पनि फैलियो। तर, कहिलेसम्म लुकेर बस्ने ?
सम्पादकको नियतमा कुनै संशय थिएन। प्राविधिक असावधानीवश त्यस्तो भएको थियो। वस्तुतः पत्रिकाको पृष्ठ संयोजन गर्ने, सजावट गर्ने र शुद्धाशुद्धि हेर्ने जिम्मा सहसम्पादकको हुन्छ। तर, त्यसो भनेर सम्पादक नैतिक रूपमा मुक्त हुन मिल्दैन।
यसअघि चिनियाँ राष्ट्रपति याङ सुन कान नेपाल आउँदा राष्ट्रिय सङ्ग्रहालयमा प्रदर्शित केही पुराना हतियारको फोटो गोरखापत्र दैनिकमा ‘भोटसँगको युद्धमा लुटिएको तोप’ क्याप्सन सहित छापिंदा उब्जिएको विवादमा त्यसका सम्पादक गोपालप्रसाद भट्टराईले आफ्नो जिम्मा लिएर समाचार सम्पादक गोकुल पोख्रेललाई बचाएका थिए। त्यही नजीर लोकदीपको सामु पनि थियो। प्रकाशक गोरखापत्र संस्थानका अधिकारीहरू किंकर्तव्यविमूढ थिए।
पत्रकारहरूको हकहितका लागि भनिएको नेपाल पत्रकार सङ्घका पदाधिकारीहरू मौन थिए। उनलाई बचाउन हामी केही सरकारी पत्रकारहरू तत्कालीन सूचना तथा सञ्चार मन्त्री रुद्रप्रसाद गिरीकहाँ गयौं। उनीसँग त्यस वेला मेरो राम्रो सम्बन्ध थियो। तर, यस घटनाले गर्दा मन्त्री स्वयं आफ्नो आसन हल्लिएको अनुभव गरिरहेका थिए। उनी यसमा आफूले केही गर्न नसक्ने भनेर टकटकिए।
यस्तो कामका लागि मन्त्रीकहाँ गएर हुन्छ तरु एक दिन पाका पत्रकार बालमुकुन्ददेव पाण्डेले मलाई भने, जानुपर्छ चिरणशमशेरकहाँ। असली शक्ति त उनै हुन्।
दैनिक समाजका सम्पादक पाण्डेले यस्ता धेरै प्रशासनिक झमेलाहरू झेलेका थिए। हामी राजदरबारका तत्कालीन संवाद सचिव चिरणशमशेर राणाको ढोका घचघच्याउन पुग्यौं। थापालाई घटनाबारे ब्रिफिङ पहिले नै भइसकेको रहेछ। हाम्रो कुरा सुनेपछि उनी यो कुरा राजालाई बिन्ती चढाइदिन राजी भए।
होनाहार तथा प्रतिभाशाली पत्रकार लोकदीप थापाले माफी मात्र पाएनन्, कालान्तरमा गोरखापत्र संस्थानको महाप्रबन्धक पनि भए।
