राणाकालीन नेपाल । त्यस माथि सुदुरपश्चिमको पहाडी जिल्ला डोटीको जैनोलीमा वि.सं. १९७१ मा जन्मिएकी द्वारिकादेवी ठकुरानीले नेपाल मात्र होइन, दक्षिण एसियाकै पहिलो महिला मन्त्री वनेर इतिहास रचिन ।

वि.सं. २००७ सालको सशस्त्र क्रान्तिमा सहभागी भएर ३२ दिन जेल वसेकी उनी २०१५ को प्रथम आम निर्वाचनमा डडेल्धुरा क्षेत्र नं ६९ बाट नेपाली काँग्रेसको उम्मेद्धवार थिइन । त्यो चुनावमा प्रतिश्पर्धा गर्ने र जित्ने उनी एक मात्र महिला उम्मेद्धवार हुन् । महिलाले राजनीति गरेको नरुचाउने समाज थियो । त्यसैले त उनको क्षेत्रमा विरोधीले पेटीकोटलाई भोट नदेऊ भन्ने नारा समेत लगाए ।
अन्नत फराकिलो मत अन्तरमा द्धारिकादेवी नै विजयी भइन ।
पहिलो जननिर्वाचित संसदमा नेपाली कांग्रेसको दुई तिहाई वहुमत थियो । तर चुनावी परिणाम घोषणा भएको तीन महिनासम्म राजा महेन्द्रले सरकार गठनका लागि आव्ह्रन गरेनन् । अन्तत २०१६ साल बैसाख २२ गते मन्त्रीपरिषद्का अध्यक्ष सुवर्णशमशेर राणाको ललीता निवास (हाल नेपाल राष्ट्र बैंक वालुवाटार रहेको भवन) मा कांग्रेस संसदीय दलको बैठक भयो, निर्वाचित एक मात्र महिला सदस्य द्धारिकादेवी ठकुरानीको अध्यक्षतामा । त्यही बैठकले बीपी कोइरालालाई दलको नेता र सुवर्णशमशेरलाई उप नेता चयन ग-यो । त्यसपछि राजाले बीपीलाई सरकार गठनका लागि आव्ह्रन गरे । अनी २०१६ साल जेठ १३ गते बीपीको नेतृत्वमा मुलुककै पहिलो जननिर्वाचित सरकार गठन भयो । ११ सदस्यीय मन्त्रीमण्डलमा द्वारिकादेवी उपमन्त्री वनिन् । उनलाई स्वास्थ्य र स्वायत्त शासन मन्त्रालयको जिम्मेवारी दिइएको थियो ।

त्यति बेला दुई सदनात्मक संसद थियो । तल्लो सदन प्रतिनिधिसभामा द्धारिकादेवी र माथिल्लो सदन महासभामा राजावाट मनोनीत कमल राणा मात्र महिला सदस्य थिए । राणा, सत्तारुढ दल नेपाली कांग्रेसका उम्मेद्धवार डीके शाहीलाई पराजित गरी महासभाको उपाध्यक्ष भइन । उनी पनि नेपाल मात्र होइन, दक्षिण एसियाकै संसदमा उपाध्यक्ष हुने पहिलो महिला हुन् ।
