राजा र भण्डारीको पहिलो भेट वारे राजा वीरेन्द्रका एडीसी टीका धमला लेख्छन् ‘दरवार आउदा तनावमा हुनहुुन्थ्यो । बस्नुस् भन्दा पनि मान्नु भएन । पुग्नासाथ सोझै राजासंग कुराकानी गर्नुभयो । वाहिर निस्किएपछि कुर्सीमा थचक्क बस्नुभयो । पानी माग्नु भयो ।
नेपाली कम्युनिष्ट आन्दोलनका शिखर पुरुष मदन भण्डारी २०४८ तिर चर्चाको शिखरमा थिए । प्रखर वक्ता भण्डारी राजनीतिकको केन्द्रमा रहनुका कारण धेरै थिए ।
पहिलो : उनले अघि सारेको जनताको वहुदलीय जनवादको सिद्धान्तका आधारमा एमाले वहुदलीय प्रतिश्पर्धामा आएको थियो ।
दोस्रो :काठमाडौं क्षेत्र नं १ मा उनी प्रधानमन्त्र ितथा नेपाली कांग्रेसका कार्यवहाक सभापति कृष्णप्रसाद भट्टराईसंग प्रतिश्पर्धा गर्दै थिए ।
तेस्रो: टुडिखेलको एउटा आमसभामा उनले राजालाई भनेका थिए ‘महाराज । आखा“ नचम्काई वक्सियोस्, हात नलम्काईवक्सियोस् । यदी राजनीति गर्ने नै मन भए श्रीपेच खोलेर मैदानमा आईवक्सियोस् । तपाईसंग प्रतिश्पर्धा गर्न यो मदन भण्डारी तयार छ ।
भर्खरै ३० वर्षे पञ्चायती व्यवस्था अन्त्य भएर प्रजातन्त्र स्थापना भएको थियो । मुलुक आम निर्वाचनमा जादै थियो । दरवार र दल एक अर्कासंग ससंकित थिए भने । चुनावी प्रतिश्पर्धामा रहेका जनआन्दोलनका सहयात्री दल कांग्रेस र एमाले पनि एक अर्को विरुद्ध आरोप प्रत्यारोपमा ओर्लिएका थिए ।
तिनै ताकाको कुरा हो । आफू विरुद्ध भण्डारीले दिएको अभिव्यक्तिका कारण राजा समेत चकित थिए । यस प्रसंगमा दरवारका प्रमुख सचिव रेवती रमण खनाल लेख्छन्–भर्खरै वहुदलीय संसदीय व्यवस्था र संवैधानीक राजतन्त्रको अभ्यास शुरु हुन लागेको छ । एउटा दलको प्रमुख नेताले दरवार प्रति आक्षेप लगाएर त्यस्तो भाषण गरेपछि चिन्ता लाग्नु स्वभाविकै थियो । सरकारको अनुमति लिएर एक बेलुका टेलिफोनमा भण्डारीसंग कुरा गरे ।
प्रमुख सचिव रेवतीरमण खनाल र भण्डारी विचको सम्वाद यस्तो थियो ।
खनाल : म दरवारको प्रमख सचिव रेवतीरमण खनाल बोलेको । एक पटक कुरा गर्नु पर्ने, महासचिवज्यूको समय पाउ भन्नलाई हजुर ।
मदन : चुनावमा व्यस्त छु ।
खनाल : एकछिन जुनसकै बेला समय मिलाउनु होस् ।
खनाल लेख्छन् ‘राती १२ वजे बालाजु वाईपासको तीनकुनेमा मोटरमै भेट्ने सहमति भयो । उहा“ले मोटरको रंग र नम्वर वताए पछि म भेट्न गए । ४५ मीनेट कुरा भयो । त्यो वेला मदनले भनेका थिए, त्यो भाषण त चुनाव जित्ने रणनीति मात्र हो । त्यस पछि भण्डारीले भाषणमा राजालाई मुछ्ने काम गरेनन् ।’
त्यो घटना पछि भण्डारी र राजा वीरेन्द्र विच सम्वादको ढोका खुल्यो । उनले राजा राष्ट्रवादी शक्ति हुन भन्ने स्वीकार गरे ।
