दुई दशकअघिको कुरा हो सत्तारुढ दल नेपाली कांग्रेसभित्रको आन्तरिक कलह चरममा पुगेको थियो । सभापति गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाको समूह प्रधानमन्त्री कृष्णप्रसाद भट्टराईविरुद्ध पार्टी संसदीय दलमा अविश्वास प्रस्ताव पेस गर्ने तयारीमा थियो । सांसदहरु सिद्धान्तभन्दा सत्ता र शक्तिको लोभमा यो वा त्यो पक्ष गुटमा गोलबद्ध हुँदै थिए ।
भट्टराईलाई सत्ताच्युत गर्न आफ्नै पार्टीका सांसदले त हस्ताक्षर अभियान चलाएकै थिए दरबार र भारतसमेत उनका लागि अनुकूल थिएनन् ।
यस्तैमा भट्टराई समर्थक कांग्रेसका वरिष्ठ नेताले बालुवाटारमै पुगेर भने – किसनुजी भरपर्दो उपाय नखोजे सरकार कुनै पनि बेला ढल्न सक्छ । त्यस दिनको घटना कांग्रेस नेता प्रदीप गिरीले पुष ८ गते कृष्णप्रसाद भट्टराई अध्ययन केन्द्रको वेबिनारमा यसरी सुनाए – सरकार ढाल्न पार्टी सभापति गिरिजावावु आफैँ कस्सिनुभएको थियो । सांसदहरूलाई घरमै बोलाएर किसुनजीविरुद्ध हस्ताक्षर गराउँदै हुनुहुन्थ्यो । उहाँले क–कसलाई बोलाउनु भयो, कुन कुन सांसदले सरकारविरुद्ध हस्ताक्षर गरे भन्नेजस्ता सूचना तारन्तर आइरहेका थिए । म किसुनजीको बेडरुममा थिएँ । तलबाट कसैले खबर ल्यायो – पार्टीका केही नेता तल बैठक कक्षमा पर्खिएर बस्नुभएको छ । किसनुजीलाई छिटो भेट्नु छ । सरकार अप्ठेरोमा परिसक्यो भनिरहनु भएको छ ।
त्यस दिनको घटना कांग्रेस नेता प्रदिप गिरिले यसरी सम्झिए – म प्रधानमन्त्रीको बेडरुमबाट तल झरेँ । अनि फेरि माथि उक्लिएर किसुनजीलाई बाहिर फलानो फलानो नेता छन् भनेर बताएँ । तीमध्ये कतिपय अहिले पनि राजनीतिमा सक्रिय भएकाले नाम चाहिँ नभनौँ । किसुनजी झर्किनु भयो । किन आएका बेला न कुबेला !

भट्टराई : ए बाबु म पनि त्यसै गरौँ ? कहाँबाट ल्याउँ ?

भट्टराई : अरे बा ! गज्जब ! आफ्नै पार्टीका सांसद किन्न मैले कार्यकारी अध्यक्ष र जीएम पद बेच्नु पर्ने ? मेरो नाममा (२०५६ को चुनावमा कांग्रेसले भट्टराईलाई प्रधानमन्त्रीको उमेदवार घोषणा गरेको थियो) चुनाव लड्ने । जिताएपछि पनि मलाई भ्रष्ट बनाएर प्रधानमन्त्री पदमा टिकाई रहने ?

विसं २०५६ को संसदीय निर्वाचनमा पहिलो पटक पर्साबाट प्रतिनिधि सभा सदस्यमा विजयी भएर प्रधानमन्त्री बनेका भट्टराई सरकार बनेको छ महिना पुग्दा नपुग्दै चौतर्फी घेराबन्दीमा परे । माओवादीले हिंसात्मक गतिविधि ह्वात्तै बढायो । त्यसैलाई आड बनाएर राजदरबार सरकारले केही गर्न सकेन भन्दै कांग्रेस सभापति कोइरालालाई सत्ता लिन उकास्न थाल्यो । छिमेकी मुलुक भारत भट्टराई सरकार लम्मिएको हेर्न चाहँदैनथ्यो । त्यस्तो अवस्थामा प्रधानमन्त्रीलाई संसदीय दलको सामना गर्न वा संसद् भंग गरेर ताजा जनादेशमा जान शुभचिन्तकहरुबाट तीव्र दबाब परिरहेको थियो ।

एकातिर सरकार चरम संकटमा थियो अर्कोतिर केही दिनमै प्रधानमन्त्री फ्रान्स भ्रमणमा जाने तय भइसकेको थियो । जंगवहादुर राणा पछि नेपालका प्रधानमन्त्रीले पहिलो पटक फ्रान्सको औपचारिक भ्रमणका लागि निमन्त्रणा पाएका थिए । भट्टराईले आफूविरुद्धको प्रस्ताव फिर्ता गरे फ्रान्सबाट फर्किएपछि राजीनामा दिने वाचा गरे । उनकै नाममा मत मागेर चुनाव जितेको भए पनि सभापति कोइरालाले फ्रान्स जाँदासम्मका लागि पर्खने धैर्य देखाएनन् । सत्ता छोड्न दबाब बढाई रहे ।
यस घटनाले पनि संसद् भंग गरेर ताजा जनादेशमा जानुबाहेक किसुनजीका सामु विकल्प छैन भनेर सल्लाह दिनेहरुलाई नै बल पुगिरहेको थियो । तर, लोकतान्त्रिक अधिकारका लागि सारा जीवन अर्पण गरेका भट्टराईले संसद्मै जनप्रतिनिधिहरूलाई ‘मार्मिक’ सम्बोधन गर्दै पद त्यागको घोषणा गरिदिए । पद जोगाउनका लागि उनी न सांसद किन्न तयार भए न त संसद् भंग गर्ने प्रधानमन्त्रीको विशेष अधिकार प्रयोग गर्न रुचाए । बरु प्रधानमन्त्रीका रुपमा बालुवाटार छिर्दाको बेदाग छविलाई झनै चम्किलो बनाएर बाहिरिए ।
