२०७२ वैशाख १२ गते शनिबार । म ११ बजे कान्तिपुर टेलिभिजनको कार्यालय पुगेर काम सुरु गरिसकेको थिएँ । एकैछिन सम्पादकीय बैठकमा उपस्थित भएपछि अपारान्ह १२ बजेको समाचार वाचनको तयारीमा लागें । मेकअप गरें । मौसम परिवर्तनसँगै रुघा लागेर ज्वरो आउलाजस्तो भएको थियो । ‘न्युज प्रोडुसर’ लाई स्वास्थ्य अवस्थाबारे जानकारी गराएँ । र, अरू बेलाभन्दा फटाफट तयार भएर स्टुडियोतर्फ ओर्लिएँ । १० मिनेट पहिले नै स्टुडियो पसिसकको थिएँ । माइक, इयरपिस लगाएर स्ट्यान्डबाई पोजिसनमा बसें । हाम्रो टोली लगभग तयार थियो समाचार प्रसारणका लागि । प्रोडुसरले तपाईंलाई धेरै गाह्रो भएमा हामी ‘रिप्लेसमेन्ट’ गर्छौं भन्ने जानकारी एयरपिसबाट दिए ।

यथासम्भव छिटो काम थालेर समाचार प्रसारण गर्न तयार भयौं । प्रोडुसरले ठूलो भूकम्पको पराकम्पन पनि जाने भएकाले सुरक्षित रहेर काम थाल्न भने ।
‘केहीबेरअघि काठमाडौंलगायत देशका विभिन्न भागमा ठूलो भूकम्प गएको छ । करिब ७.६ रेक्टर स्केलको भूकम्पको केन्द्रबिन्दु गोरखा र लम्जुङ आसपास रहेको’ भन्दै नियमित बुलेटिनलाई अगाडि बढायौं । त्यति भन्नासाथ पुन: भूकम्पको धक्का महसुस भयो । स्टुडियोका बत्तीहरू हल्लिए, आवाज बढ्यो । थरर कम्पन महसुस भयो । म एकैछिन रोकिएँ ।
त्यतिबेलै भित्रबाट मलाई दिइएको ‘कमान्ड’ को आवाज बदलिएको जस्तो लाग्यो । ‘मृदुला डन्ट प्यानिक यु आर क्रियटिङ हिस्ट्री’ भन्ने वाक्य सुनेपछि एकैछिन मौन बसें । आवाज ठम्याएँ, समाचार प्रमुख दिलभूषण पाठकको । अलि लामो सास फेरे । अनि सोचेँ अब न्युज मिसनमा गयो रोकिने बेला छैन । समाचार सधैंको ढाँचामा जाने अवस्था थिएन । तर, न तयारी सामग्री थिए, न टेलिप्रम्टर नै । भूकम्पसम्बन्धी जे खबर आयो त्यसैलाई वाचन गर्न व्यस्त भइयो ।
धरहरा ढलेको खबर इयरपिसबाट आयो । लाग्यो, ठूलै क्षति भएछ, अब कस्ता–कस्ता क्षतिका विवरण आउने हुन् ? अनि भन्न सुरु गरें, ‘ऐतिहासिक धरोहर धरहरा भूकम्पले पूर्णरूपमा क्षति पुगेको छ ।’ त्यसपछि टेलिफोन कुराकानी गर्नुपर्ने जानकारी आयो । भूकम्प मापन केन्द्रका प्रमुख लोकविजय अधिकारीसँँग टेलिफोन सम्पर्क भयो तर कुरा गर्दागर्दै अर्को धक्का गयो । उताबाट आवाज कम आएजस्तो लाग्यो अनि सोधें, ‘यहाँ ठूलो धक्का महसुस भएको छ त्यहाँ अवस्था के छ ?’
उनले त्यहाँ पनि महसुस भएको बताए । गोरखाको बारपाक केन्दबिन्दु बनाएर ७.६ रेक्टर स्केलको भूकम्प गएको भन्दै उनले अन्य पराकम्पनहरूबारे जानकारी दिए । त्यतिबेलासम्म करिब ५/६ वटा धक्का महसुस भइसकेको थियो । ती सबै ५ रेक्टरभन्दा माथिका थिए ।
म समाचार अपडेट गरिरहन्थें । क्यामेरा हल्लिन्थ्यो अनि म बसेको कुर्सी र टेबल पनि । आफूलाई दरो बनाएर सम्हाल्न र ‘पोजिसन’ कायम राख्न कोसिस गरिराख्थे । मेरासामु तीनवटा चुनौती थिए : सुरक्षित रहने, कम्पन र विकराल दृश्यबाट विचलित नहुने र संयमित भएर सामान्य परिस्थितिजस्तै मुद्रामा समाचारलाई निरन्तरता दिने ।
संवाददाताहरू जगत नेपाल, दीर्घपाणी उपाध्याय, पुष्प ढुंगाना, उद्धवराज भेटवाल, सरल गुरुङ आदिसँग ‘लाइभ’ कुराकानी भयो ।
सुन्धारा वरपरको जानकारी लिइयो । धरहरा ढलेको, मृत्यु, असंख्य घाइते, सुनधारा न्युरोड क्षेत्रमा कोलाहल र वीर अस्पतालमा चापजस्ता खबर संवाददाताले दिए ।
महाराजगन्जस्थित शिक्षण अस्पतालमा घाइतेको चाप बढेकोबारे टेलिफोन कुराकानी भयो । एम्बुलेन्सका साइरनको आवाज बढिरहेको र घाइते संख्या गन्ती गर्न सक्ने अवस्था नरहेको खबर थियो । यस्तै अवस्था पाटन अस्पतालको पनि थियो ।
यत्तिकैमा धरहरा ढलेपछिको दृश्य प्राप्त भयो । त्यसलाई मनिटरमा हेर्दै समाचार भनियो । केहीबेर अघि मौखिक रूपमा मात्र पस्किइएको समाचार अब सचित्र वर्णन गर्दै गएँ । सम्पादन नगरिएका ती दृश्य हेर्दै झस्काउने थिए ।
त्यसपछि गोरखा संवाददातासँग टेलिफोन कुराकानी गर्ने प्रयास भयो । उनले गोरखा दरबार, मनकामना मन्दिरमा क्षति पुगको पुराना कच्ची घरहरू भत्किएको जानकारी दिए । उनीसँग कुरा गर्दागर्दै फेरि अर्को धक्का महसुस भयो । बढी क्षतिग्रस्त जिल्ला भएकाले होला संवाददाता आफैं आत्तिएको जस्तो भान हुन्थ्यो । मोबाइल नेटवर्क पनि राम्रो थिएन । जो–जोसँग कुरा गर्दा पराकम्पन आउँथ्यो, म उनीहरूले कत्तिको महसुस गरे भनेर सोधिहाल्थें ।
बिस्तारै स्टुडियोमा चहलपहल बढेको थियो । कन्ट्रोल रुमबाट मेरा लागि दिइएको कमान्डसँगै अन्य व्यक्तिका आवाज पनि आभास मिल्थ्यो ।
त्यसै क्रममा काठमाडौं उपत्यकाका सम्पदाहरूमा पुगेको क्षतिबारे सचित्र वर्णन गरियो । उपत्यका आसपासका ग्रामीण क्षेत्रमा पुगेको क्षतिका समाचार पनि आउन थालिसकेका थिए । सिन्धुपाल्चोक संवाददातासँग टेलिफोन सम्पर्कको प्रयास सम्भव हुन सकेन ।
बेला बेला मलाई लाग्थ्यो क्षति नपुगेको ठाउँ, सहर, गाउँ कुन होला ? स्टुडियो बाहिर निस्किएपछि राजधानीको मुहार कस्तो पाउने होला मैले ? अर्कोतर्फ छेउमा राखिएको मेरा ‘ह्यान्ड ब्याग’ मा रहेको मोबाइल बेला बेला भाइब्रेट भइराख्थ्यो । अनि म सोच्थें, देशभरको खबर पस्किरहेको छु, तर आफ्नै प्रियजनसँग एक शब्दसमेत बोल्न पाइएको छैन । कस्तो विडम्बना !
आफन्ततहरूको अवस्था के होला ? तर्कनाले मात्रै पनि मुटु हल्लाउँथ्यो ।
एकमनले सोचें, विशेष अनुरोध गरेर एक कल फोन गरुँ । तर सबैजना तनावका बीचमै ‘लाइभ कभरेज’ मा भिडिरहेका बेला डगमगाइनँ । हामी यस्तो पेसामा छौं, जहाँ जस्तोसुकै परिस्थितिमा पनि तयार भएर नागरिकलाई सुसूचित गराउने दायित्वबाट पन्छिन मिल्दैन । त्यसैले यी सब तनाव र मानवीय समवेदनालाई अनुहारमा देखाउन उपयुक्त थिएन, न त उठेर जान नै सम्भव थियो ।
पराकम्पनहरू जारी थिए । हरेक झट्कामा क्यामेरापर्सन सुरक्षित ठाउँमा ओत लाग्न पुग्थे । मेरो लागि न्युजरुमको कुर्सी र टेबलको विकल्प थिएन, सुरक्षित स्थान भने पनि, काम भने पनि ।
केही बेरमा अरनिको राजमार्गअन्तर्गत भक्तपुर सूर्यविनायक खण्डमा पर्ने लोकन्थली, कौशलटारको बाटो भासिएको खबर आयो । आफ्नै घर नजिकको बाटोको त्यो अवस्थाबारे जानकारी पाएलगत्तै एक्कासि मुटुको धड्कन बढ्यो ।
बेलाबेला मौका मिलाएर घडी हेर्न खोज्थें । दिनको चार बजेसम्मको समाचार दिउँसोको एन्करले पढ््नुपर्ने नियम थियो । तर त्यो दिन परिस्थिति नै बेग्लै । कति घन्टा बस्नुपर्ने टुंगो थिएन ।
२ बजेर ५० मिनेट गएपछि समाचार प्रमुख र समाचार संयोजक स्टुडियोभित्र प्रवेश गरे र भने, ‘वेल डन मृदुला, अब बाहिर जाऔं ।’ मैले हाते घडी हेरें, समाचार सकिने बेला भएको थिएन । जिम्मेवार व्यक्तिहरू भित्र पसेपछि केहीबेर त मनमा अनेक सोचाइ आए । कतै कुनै अप्रिय घटनाको जानकारी दिन लागिएको त होइन भन्ने ठानें । बिस्तारै इयरपिस र माइक्रोफोन फुकालेर म बाहिर निस्किएँ । सबै साथीहरू मलाई हेर्दै थिए, मेरो मुखबाट शब्द आइरहेको थिएन । स्टुडियोबाट तल ओर्लने क्रममा साथीहरू सबै छिटो बाहिर जाऔं भन्दै अगाडि बढे तर म भावशून्य थिए ।
प्राय: सहकर्मीहरू खुला स्थानमा पुगिसकेका थिए । मेरो सोचभन्दा स्थिति सामान्य पाएपछि लामो सास फेरें । अनि सहकर्मीहरूको माया र स्वाबासीले तनावबाट बाहिर आउन सहज भयो ।
त्यतिन्जेलसम्म कान्तिपुर टोली बाहिर सडकबाट प्रसारणको तयारीमा व्यस्त थियो । अनि हाम्रो टोलीको सानो आपतकालीन बैठक बस्यो त्यहीं बाहिर नै । अनि केही क्षणमा सडकबाटै प्रत्यक्ष प्रसारण सुरु गर्यौं ।
