मैले तत्काल फोनमै भनें, “ठीक छ, तर हाम्रा अस्पतालका डाक्टरहरुले मात्र हेर्ने निर्णय चाहिँ ठीक हुँदैन । फोक्सोसम्बन्धी विशेषज्ञ डा। अर्जुन कार्कीलाई बोलाएर बेलैमा संलग्न गराउनु उपयुक्त हुन्छ । डा। कार्कीलाई पनि यसबारे जानकारी गराउनुहोला । म त अहिले फर्किने स्थिति पनि भएन ।”
डा। कार्की र डा। केसी घरमै जानुभएको कुरा मैले पछि थाहा पाएँ । डा। मधु घिमिरेको सल्लाहमा उहाँको उपचार घरमै गर्ने निर्णय भएछ । यसपछि तत्कालै केही सुधार भएकाले अस्पताल भर्ना हुनुपरेनछ । म अति व्यस्ततासाथ अमेरिकाको कार्यक्रममा संलग्न भएँ । साथै म आफ्नो अस्पतालमा पनि इमेलमार्फत सम्पर्कमै रहिरहें ।
लगत्तै दोस्रो जनआन्दोलन सकारात्मक मोडमा पुगेर टुङ्गियो । मागअनुसार संसद् पुनःस्थापना पनि भयो । पुनः बहालीपछि बनेको सरकारको पहिलो मन्त्रिपरिषद् बैठकले नै पुराना नियुक्ति सबै खारेज गर्ने भन्ने निर्णय गरेछ । त्यसपछि अस्पतालका केही चिकित्सकले गरेका गतिविधि र प्रचारबाजीबारे सुन्दा म अत्यन्त मर्माहत भएँ ।
केही त डा। कोइरालाको जागिर त गयो नि भन्दै खुसी भएछन् । कानुनतः मलाई चार वर्षका लागि नियमसङ्गत ढङ्गले नियुक्ति दिइएको थियो । त्यसैले त्यो नियुक्ति बिनाकारण रद्द हुन सक्दैनथ्यो । त्यो निर्णयको विरूद्धमा न्यायिक उपचार पनि खोज्न सकिन्थ्यो । तर तत्कालीन मन्त्रिपरिषद्को निर्णयविपरीत जानु राजनीतिक रुपमा अस्वाभाविक जस्तो देखिन्थ्यो । यस कुराले म अत्यन्त दुःखी भएँ र बिलखबन्दमा परेको अनुभव गरें । यसले गर्दा मेरो अमेरिकाको बाँकी बसाइँ अत्यन्तै तनावपूर्ण भयो । म अमेरिकाबाट फर्किएर अस्पताल नै गएँ । नजिकका साथीसँग सल्लाह गरें । नियमित काममा लाग्ने निर्णय गर्यौं । माहोल शान्त तर अझै अस्पष्ट थियो ।
त्यसपछि म तत्कालीन प्रधानमन्त्री गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालासँग भेट गर्न गएँ । अघिल्लो चारवर्षे कार्यकालका लागि उहाँकै मन्त्रिपरिषद्ले नै नियुक्ति दिएकाले मलाई कुरा गर्न पनि सजिलो भयो । मैले बजारका हल्ला उल्लेख गर्दै आफ्ना कुरा पनि स्पष्ट राखें ।
उहाँले पनि स्पष्ट शब्दमा भन्नुभयो, “यो निर्णय राजनीतिक नियुक्ति भएकाहरुलाई मात्र हो । आफ्नो कार्यक्षमता र लगनशीलता देखाएर बसेका तपाईंंहरु जस्तो व्यावसायिक व्यक्तिका लागि होइन । तपाईंंलाई लागू हुँदैन । चाहिन्छ भने म क्याबिनेटबाट अर्को निर्णय गराइदिन्छु ।”

उपचार
म विदेशमा पढ्न जानु अघिसम्म गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाको नाम सुनेको भए पनि उहाँसँग मेरो चिनजान थिएन । अमेरिका र क्यानडाको तालिम लिएर फर्किएपछि, खासगरी गङ्गालालमा मेरो नियुक्तिका सन्दर्भमा उहाँलाई मेराबारे जानकारी गराइएको रहेछ । गङ्गालालमा मेरो नियुक्ति भइसकेपछि मात्र मैले उहाँसँग भेट्ने मौका पाएको थिएँ ।

पछि २०६२र६३ को जनआन्दोलनको अन्तिम अवस्थातिर म अमेरिका जाँदा उहाँ बिरामी भई मलाई खोज्नुभएको रहेछ । उपस्थित हुन सकिनँ । फर्किएर आएपछि भेट गर्नुपर्ने खासै त्यस्तो सन्दर्भ पनि परेको थिएन ।
२०६३ सालको कुनै एक साँझ बिहेको निम्तोमा म र्याडिसन होटलमा थिएँ । कुराकानीमा व्यस्त भइरहेकै बेला मेरो ड्राइभरले मलाई खोज्दै आएर भने, “तपाईंको फोन लागेन रे । घरबाट फोन आएको छ । घरमा तुरून्त फोन गर्नुस् ।”
मैले तत्काल घरमा फोन गरें ।

मैले पनि उहाँलाई हेरें, अवस्था गम्भीर नै रहेछ । तर उहाँ अस्पताल नजाने, निवासमै उपचार गराउने भनेर जिद्दी गरिरहनुभएको रहेछ । डा। मधु घिमिरेले अनुरोध गर्दा नटेरी बस्नुभएको रहेछ । डा.घिमिरेले मलाई भन्नुभयो, “फकाएर गङ्गालालमा लगेर उपचार गराउनुपर्यो ।”
त्यति धेरै भेटघाट गरिरहने व्यक्ति नभएकाले के मान्नुहोला र भन्ने सोच्दै उहाँको कोठाभित्र पसें ।

उहाँलाई तुरून्तै अस्पताल लगेर भर्ना गर्ने चाँजोपाँजो मिलाइयो । अस्पताल पुगेर एक्सरे गरेर हेर्दा फोक्सोमा समस्या देखियो । आइसियूको बेड मिलाएर भर्नाको तयारी गरियो । त्यसपछि उहाँलाई “अहिले घर जान अप्ठ्यारो छ, जान मिल्दैन” भन्यौं । उहाँले रिसाउँदै “जे गर्ने हो गर” भन्नुभयो ।
उहाँलाई भेन्टिलेटरमा राख्ने तयारी गर्दै थियौं । तर केही सुधार हुँदै गएपछि राख्नुपरेन । त्यस पटक उहाँ करिब १० दिन बस्नुभयो । उहाँलाई सन्चो बनाएर घर पठाइसकेपछि पनि उपचार गर्न मसहित चिकित्सकको टोली बन्यो । त्यो टोलीले हरेक दिन परीक्षण तथा उपचार गर्न जानुपर्थ्यो । प्यारामेडिक्सलगायत अन्य विशेषज्ञलाई पनि साथै लैजानुपर्थ्यो । त्यस सिलसिलामा पनि उहाँसँग घनिष्ठ सम्बन्ध बन्न पुग्यो । मलगायत हामी चिकित्सकप्रति उहाँको ठूलो विश्वास रहेको हामीले अनुभव गरेका थियौं ।

दोस्रो भर्नाको अन्त्यतिर सुजाता कोइरालाले गिरिजाबाबुलाई विदेशमै लगेर उपचार गराउन जोड दिन थाल्नुभयो । त्यसमा भने मेरो फरक मत रहँदै आएको थियो । मैले उहाँहरुको अगाडि स्पष्ट शब्दमा विदेश नलैजाने सल्लाह दिन्थें ।
