दुई पटक हृदयघात भएका राजा महेन्द्रको २०२८ साल माघ १७ मा निधन भयो । मर्नु अघि उनले संविधान संशोधन गरी जनतालाई प्रजातान्त्रिक अधिकार दिने तयारी गरेको थिए । त्यसैका लागि चितवनकोे दियालो वंगलामा मन्त्रीपरिषद्को बैठक पनि वोलाई सकेका थिए । माघ १० को बैठकमा राजाको प्रस्ताव केही कट्टरपन्थी पञ्चले स्वीकार गरेनन् । माघ १६ गते उनले अर्को बैठक बोलाए । त्यो बेला उनी भन्ने गर्थे म प्रजातन्त्र हरण गरेको कलंक बोक्न चाहन्न । तर संविधान संशोधन गर्न भनेर वोलाइएको मन्त्रीपरिषद् बैठक गर्न नपाउदै हृदयघातबाट उनको निधन भयो ।
हुन त त्यस अघि पनि २०२२ सालमा उनले हृदयघात जितेका थिए । तर दोस्रो पटक भने मृत्युलाई जित्न सकेनन् ।
शिकारका सौखिन राजा महेन्द्र कञ्चनपुरको शुक्लाफाटामा थिए । रुखमा प्लेटफर्म बनाएर बाघ मार्ने बेला उनी ढले । राजाले हानेको गोलीले एकातिर जंगलको राजा (बाघ) ढल्यो, अर्को तिर राजा महेन्द्र । सवारी मन्त्रीका कीतिनिधि विष्ट राजासंगै रुख माथि मचानमा थिए । उनकै काखमा राजा ढले ।
राजालाई हृदयघात भएको खवर आउना साथ प्रधानमन्त्री कार्यालयबाट मलाई वोलाइयो । हतार हतार सेनाको जहाजमा महेन्द्रनगर लगियो । ओर्लिएर घटनास्थल पुग्न मोटरमा दुई घण्टा लाग्यो ।
राजा रुख माथि मचानमा ढलेका छन् । रानी रत्न र कीर्तिनिधि विष्ट चिन्तत मुद्रामा । हतार हतार मचान चढेर रुखमै इसीजी गरे । हल्का होस आएपछि राजाले सोधे –डाक्टर मलाई हृदयाघात भएको हो । मैले भने –हो सरकार । तर हल्का प्रकृतिको हो ।
त्यही औषधी दियौं । पहिलो दिन एकदमै गाह्रो भयो । हृदयघात भएको विरामीलाई हेलिकप्टर चढाउन नहुने, त्यही राखेर उपचार गरियो । भोली पल्ट आर्मीहरु आइपुगे । त्यहाँ सानो क्याम्प पनि बनिहाल्यो । विच जंगलमा हात्ति, बाघ, सर्प र अरु जंगली जनावरको त्रास त थियो नै । त्यो भन्दा पनि वढी चिन्ता राजाको स्वास्थ्यको थियो ।
केही दिन पछि राजालाई कैलालीको टिकापुरमा ल्याएर शान्त वातावरणमा उपचार गरियो ।
त्यसको छ वर्ष पछि २०२८ माघको कुरा हो । म हेटौडामा थिए । राजाका आमाहरुसंग । विहान अचानक तुरुन्त जाउ भन्ने खबर पाए । हेटौडाबाट तिव्र गतिमा गुडेको मोटरले मलाई दियालो बंगला (भरतपुर, चितवन) पु-यायो । त्यहाँ पुगेपछि थाहा पाए, विहानै राजालाई हृदयघात भएको रहेछ । अवस्था क्रिटिकल थियो । छट्पटाई रहेका थिए । त्यो बेला मैले उनको मुखबाट एउटै शब्द सुने ‘म त मर्छु की क्या हो ।’
त्यस पछि राजा बोलेको सुनिन । राजाको त्यो हाल देखेर रानी रत्नलाई भने–सरकार यसपाली त गाह्रो छ । हामी प्रयास गरिरहेका छौ । वेलायतबाट डाक्टर बोलाउन सम्भव छैन । अल इन्डिया इन्ष्टिच्युटको बोर्ड अफ डाइरेक्टर डा. भाटियालाई बोलाउ । रानीको स्वीकृति पछि खवर पठाइयो । राति ८ बजे उनी आइपुगे । धेरै प्रयास गरियो तर राति १ वजेतिर राजाको मृत्यु भयो ।
राजालाई के कारण हृदयघात भयो भन्न त कठिन छ । तर पाकिस्तानबाट टुक्रिएर बंगलादेश वनेपछि उनी एकदमै चिन्तित थिए । मैले एक पटक राजाको मुखबाट सुनेको छु -बंगलादेश वाज क्रियटेड वाइ इन्डिया ।
