राणाकालमा शिकार कुटनीति सबै भन्दा वलियो मानिन्थ्यो । अंग्रेजलाई खुसी बनाएर शासन सत्तामा टिकिरहने रणनीति त्यो बेलाका शासकहरुको थियो । जंगबहादुरकै पाला देखि राणाहरुले बेलायती शासकहरुलाई शिकारका लागि आमन्त्रण गर्न थालेको इतिहास छ । प्रधानमन्त्री चन्द्रशमशेर आफ्नो बेलायत भ्रमणबाट सकेर स्वदेश फर्किदा एकदमै उत्साहित थिए । त्यसको कारण हो उनको निमन्त्रणमा राजा जर्ज पञ्चम शिकारका लागि नेपाल आउन राजी हुनु । श्री ३ महाराज चन्द्रको विशेष निमन्त्रणमा वि सं १९६८ पुस ३ मा बेलायती राजा नेपाल आउने मिति तय भैसकेको थियो ।
संयोगले भ्रमणको पूर्व सन्ध्यामा राजा पृथ्वीवीर विक्रम शाहको मृत्यु भयो । बेलायती राजा आउने दिन नेपाली राजाको स्वर्गारोहणको मात्र १३ दिन पुगेको थियो । तैपनि पूर्व निर्धारित कार्यक्रममा हेरफेर भएन । नयाँ राजा त्रिभुवन बालकै थिए । त्यसैले उनी बेलायती समकक्षीको स्वागतमा जान पाएनन् । सरदार भीमबहादुर पाँडे लेख्छन्–त्यस वखत नेपालको कुटनीतिक सम्वन्ध जगाउने सजिलो साधन गनिएको थियो शिकार । बेलायती राजालाई शिकारमा निम्त्याएपछि कुटनीतिक क्षेत्रमा नेपालले ठूलो सफलता पाएको महसुस गरिएको थियो ।
