२००७ सालको क्रान्तिका वेला नेपाली कांग्रेसको मुक्ति सेनाले सिगों विराटनगर कव्जा गरे पनि वडाहाकिमको निवास नियन्त्रणमा लिन सकेन । विराटनगरमा विजय झण्डा फहराउन बीपी, सुवर्णशमशेर स्वयं खटिएका थिएका थिए । तैपनि हतियारको वलमा वडाहाकिमको निवास स्थित सरकारी किल्ला कव्जा गर्न सकिएको थिएन ।

अनी चौतर्फी रुपमा घेरा हाली नारावाजी गर्ने र वडाहाकिमलाई आत्मसमपर्ण गराउने योजना वन्यो । तारिणीप्रसाद कोइराला माइकिङवाट गर्न थाले ‘अव तपाईहरु लडाई न गर्नुस्, आत्मसमर्पण गर्नुस् ।’ वडाहाकिम निवास मुक्ति सेनाको घेराउमा छ । दुवै तर्फवाट गोलीको पर्रा छुटेको छ । बीपी, सुवर्ण र तारिणी नेपाल बैकको छतवाट युद्व नियाल्दै थिए । राणा सैनिकले नेताहरु भएको घरताकेरै एक सुरले गोली वर्षाउन थाले। अनी ज्यान जोगाउन तीनै शिर्ष नेता छतमै पल्टिए । बीपीले भनेका छन् ‘ब्रेनगनको गोलीबाट घरको प्लाष्टर खसिरहेको छ । त्यसको धुलो खसिरहेको छ, हाम्रो टाउको माथि ।
उता जमिनवाट जीवी याकथुम्वाको नेतृत्वमा गिरिजाप्रसादहरु वडाहाकिम निवास तर्फ गोली चलाई रहेका छन् । पूर्व प्रधानमन्त्री गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाले लेखकसंग भनेका छन् ‘मैले आफै पनि वन्दुक चलाए । कानै नजिकवाट गोली आउन थाले पछि चौरमा थुपारिएको मुडामा आड लिएर वालवाल वचे ।’ मुक्ति सेनाका जवानहरु पनि मुडाहरुको आड लगाएर गोली छेल्दै, जवाफी फायर गरिरहेका थिए । व्रिटिस र भारतको आजाद हिन्द फौजमा काम गरेका अनुभवीद्वाहरु भूइमा पल्टिए गोली चलाई रहेका थिए । माईकिङको भरमा सरकारी सेना माथि जाई लाग्नु ‘आफूहरुको अज्ञानता भएको स्वयं बीपीले स्वीकारेका छन ।
विराटनगरको युद्व लम्विदै जादा कसरी छिटो टुंगोमा पु-याउने भन्ने विषयमा मुक्ति सेनाका वरिष्ठ कमाण्डहरुमा बैठकमा धेरै विकल्प माथि वहस भयो । १) गोश्वाराको चारै पट्टिका पर्खालमा जिलेटिन फिट गरी फ्युजद्वारा विष्फोटन गराउने । २) हवाई जहाजवाट वम खसाल्ने । ३) एउटा शक्तिशाली तोप बनाई पर्खालमा नष्ट गर्ने वा ४) ट्याङको व्यवस्था गरी पर्खाल ध्वस्त वनाउने ।’
युद्व हेडक्वाटर विराटनगर जुटमीलको वर्कसपमा तोप र त्यसका सेल वनाउन सक्ने पूर्वाधर थिए । त्यसैले तोप वनाउने कामका लागि अनुभव प्राप्त सेनानी फत्तेवहादुर नेपाली खटिए । दोस्रो विश्वयुद्वमा जहाजवाट फालिएका वम वनाउने काममा संलग्न प्राविधिक तारापद चटर्जीलाई भारतका समाजवादी कार्यकर्ता भोला चटर्जी मार्फत विराटनगरमा झिकाईयो । चटर्जी नेपाली सहयोगीका साथ रात दिन वम वनाउन खटिएका थिए । अर्को तर्फ फत्तेवहादुर नेपालीले दुई वटा ‘तोप वनाए । ति तोपवाट वडाहाकिमको पर्खाल भत्काउने प्रयास भयो तर अपेक्षा वमोजिम सफलता प्राप्त हुन सकेन । 
अनी  क्रान्तिकारीहरुले एउटा ठूलो ट्याक्टरलाई ट्याङक वनाई वडाहाकिमको पर्खाल भत्काउने योजना वनाए । विराटनगर जुट मीलको वर्कसपमा फत्तेवहादुर नेपालीको टिमले  पाच छ दिन लगाएर ट्याक्टरलाई ट्याङ वनाए । ‘क्यारपिलर टाइपको फलामकै चक्का भएको ट्याक्टर थियो त्यो ।’ पाच छ दिनमा फलामका पाताले वेरेर त्यसलाई ट्याङकको रुप दिइयो । मुक्ति सेनाले वडाहाकिम निवास घेरेको पनि १४ दिन भैसकेको थियो । केशवप्रसाद कोइराला विराटनगरका जनसरकार प्रमुख र मुक्ति सेनाका कमाण्डर जीवी याक्थुम्वा पूर्वी क्षेत्रको सैन्य कमाण्डर वनाइएका थिए । 
डिसेम्वर २३ का दिन मुक्तिसेनाले आफै वनाएको ट्याङकले वडाहाकिम निवासको दक्षिणतिरवाट पर्खाल तोडेर भित्रै प्रवेश ग-यो । ‘ट्याङभित्रवाट गनरहरुले ब्रेनगनका गोली वर्साउन थाले । ट्याङक जति जति अघि वढ्दै गयो, उत्तमविक्रम र उनको फौज अत्यधिक तर्सिएर भए भरका हतियारले ट्याङमा प्रहार गर्न लाग्यो । 
मुक्तिसेनाले पनि चारै तिरवाट गोली वर्षा ग¥यो । निक्कै वेरको घम्सा घम्सी पछि मुक्तिसेनाको ट्याङक केही समय वडाहाकिमको इनारमा फस्यो । चालक गौरमणि फसेको ट्याङक वाहिर निकाल्न प्रयासरत थिए । दोहोरो गोली हानाहानले वातावण एकदमै भयावह थियो । को कुन वेला मर्ने हो थाहा छैन । मुक्ति सेनाका कमाण्डर श्याम तामाङ लेख्छन् ‘इनारमा फसेको दश पन्ध्र मिनेट पछि अनेक प्रयास गर्दा बल्लतल्ल ट्याङक वाहिर निस्कियो । गोश्वाराका वडाहाकिम र सैनिकहरुले नष्ट भयो भनेर सोचेको ट्याङक एकाएक ब्रेनगन फायर गर्दै अघि वढेको देखे पछि उत्तमबिक्रम राणा र उनको फौजको सातो पुत्ला उड्यौ ।’
त्यही बेला बीपी माइकिङ गर्दै थिए ‘वडाहाकिम तपाईलाई चारै तिरवाट मुक्ति सेनाले घेरि सकेको छ । आत्मसमर्पण गर्नुस् । यदी गर्नु भएन भने मुक्ति सेना जुनसुकै वेला घर भित्रै प्रवेश गर्न सक्छ । त्यसवाट उत्पन्न हुने क्षतिको जिम्मेवार नेपाली कांग्रेस हुने छैन ।’ क्षणभरको माइकिङ पछि वडाहाकिमको घर भित्रवाट सेतो झण्डा देखिन्छ । मतलव आत्मसमर्पण ।
वडाहाकिमले आत्मसमर्पण गरे भने पछि मुक्तिसेनाका कमाण्डर जीवी याकथुम्वा नेतृत्वको टोली दौडिएर घर भित्र जादै थियो । वडाहाकिमका एक जना छोरा, केही पैसा लिएर सहयोगीहरुका साथ उत्तरपट्टी भाग्दै थिए । मुक्ति सेनाको गोलीवाट ति मारिए । उनका अर्का छोरा पनि घाइते भएर भ-याङ मुनि लडेका थिए । उनलाई टेक्दै जवानहरु माथिल्लो तलामा उक्लिन थाले । विराटनगर मोर्चामा खटिएका पूर्व प्रधानमन्त्री गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाले लेखकसंग भनेका छन् ‘वडाहाकिमले आत्मसमर्पण ग-यो भनेर उसलाई गिरफ्तार गर्न म पनि दौडिएर गैरहेको थिए । उतावाट गोली आयो र म हुत्तिएर धकेलिए । वालवाल वचे। अलिकति मात्र ढिलो गरेको भए, त्यही मारिन्थे होला ।’
